How To Live The Quiet

It’s a five-minute Friday kind of day. Here and on blogs all over cyberland, led by my friend Lisa-Jo. The one day of the week when we set aside five short minutes to write and let it be. Just whatever comes out, no editing allowed.

So — here are the rules (straight from Lisa-Jo herself), in case you want to play along:

1. Write for 5 minutes flat – no editing, no over thinking, no backtracking.
2. Link back to lisajobaker (dot) com and invite others to join in.
3. And then absolutely, no ifs, ands or buts about it, you need to visit the person who linked up before you & encourage them in their comments. Seriously. That is, like, the rule. And the fun. And the heart of this community..

Quiet

Quiet is a vanilla candle on the piano as the snow falls and the fire crackles. Quiet.

It means space in my heart, in my mind, in my soul. Enough space to hear, well, nothing. And to be happy with it. Quiet is the rain and the wet when I’m safe and warm inside. It’s the okay inside when there’s thunder outside. And wind. And there’s more on its way.

Quiet is rest when there seems no reason for it. Rest on the inside. From worry. From trying to control what I cannot. Quiet is the soft, steady breathing of my ten-year-old as she sleeps the day off. It’s the life unafraid when it knows Who to fear.

Quiet is where I want to live.

  1. Oh how I crave the quiet you describe. You paint a beautiful picture of exactly what I’m lacking right now.
